Dr. Geoffrey Rutledge

by HealthCentral

Formerly chief medical information officer at Wellsphere, Geoff became Chief Medical Information Officer at HealthCentral with the acquisition of Wellsphere in January 2009. Geoff holds a background in both medicine (McGill MD) and computer technology (Stanford PhD). Previously a faculty member at both Stanford and Harvard medical schools, Geoff carried out research to develop automated methods of understanding medical information that gave doctors and nurses the knowledge about a patient’s condition that they needed to make better and more timely treatment decisions. After realizing the potential and the opportunity for the Internet to improve the health of millions of people, Geoff then moved to WedMD, which at the time was an early phase startup company.

When Geoff is not working on new medical technology or reading about medical advances, his daily activities include rollerblading or bicycling with Katie the WellDog (my beautiful Belgian Malinois). For leisure time activities, I enjoy surfing the skies above the Golden Gate bridge in an ATOS (a rigid wing hangglider), flying for adventures in a Glasair experimental airplane, and diving underwater in tropical and arctic waters.
