The Front-End Software Engineer is responsible for producing front-end design work for the HealthCentral.com websites. This position is based in our Arlington, VA office.
Primary responsibilities:
- Support and develop HTML, CSS, and PHP web-based interfaces for several large, existing software bases, in PHP and Ruby On Rails, and/or new self-contained “microsites” for partners
- Execute on implementation and refinement of user interfaces to social networking and content management aspects of our sites
- Work with web designers, web producers, and other application developers throughout the application development lifecycle to ensure the best possible consumer user experience
- Work within small development teams driving concepts through wireframes, engineering, test, launch, and ongoing iteration
- Be aware of the state of the art in web front-end development, and learn new languages & technologies as needed
Qualifications/Experience:
- 1-3 years User-Interface development experience
- Excellent communication skills
- HTML/CSS Mastery (HTML for SEO, WCAG/508 compliance, use latest concepts in UI HTML/CSS design, cross-browser compatible, presentation/content separation)
- Strong Adobe Photoshop skills (proper handling/saving of images for the web and understand/manipulate comps)
- Strong Javascript skills (DOM, Javascript syntax, cross-browser compatibility, knowledge in a JS library a plus)
- PHP experience and Comfortable working on a LAMP stack
- Highly flexible and extremely efficient, doesn’t mind multiple iterations on the way to the right answers
- Comfortable working closely with developers in small team environment on tight deadlines
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Extreme Programming, or UP a plus
- Background in Object Oriented Programming and design a plus
- Bachelors in computer science or related engineering discipline a plus
