Jack Kustanowitz, Vice President of Software Engineering, comes to HealthCentral with a diverse set of experiences and technical interests. At MediaCom Telesystems from 1997-2000, Kustanowitz worked on least-cost routing hardware, software and firmware, designing database-driven software for real-time telephony applications. He then joined Answers.com (formerly GuruNet) less than a year after its founding, and contributed greatly to its success culminating in a 2004 IPO. At Answers.com, he led a team to create a publishing interface for a mass-market multi-tier knowledge management system, critically acclaimed by the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and dozens of industry publications.
Kustanowitz spent two years doing research in photo layout and media annotation at the well-known University of Maryland Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory, with additional work on semantic web, VXML and peer-to-peer trust relationships. Immediately before joining The HealthCentral Network, Kustanowitz worked at Verizon as a Software Systems Architect on the VoiceWing (VOIP) project, where he managed offshore team members and coordinated geographically distributed teams.
Kustanowitz has a BS in Computer Engineering from Boston University, where he was a Trustee Scholar and graduation speaker for the College of Engineering. He holds an MS in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.
