    Hello Mariec2841!

Pain across the back can be a symptom of Acid Reflux but the best thing is for you to see your doctor to confirm what is going on with you, and to rule out any more serious issues. While online sites like Health Central are a convenient resource for health information with lots of great advice and tips, it should not take the place of your own doctor's advice and care. Only you and your doctor know what is best for you.

Dr Todd Eisner writes about pain and GERD in this sharepost. He writes, "Back pain can be present, but other more serious disorders should be ruled out." In this sharepost, Dr Eisner says that these pains are not a typical symptom of Acid Reflux.

Question #2: For the past few months, I have been feeling sick to my stomach, with pains in my side and in my upper, left rib cage. Could acid reflux be the cause?

Dr. Eisner: Those are not typical symptoms of reflux. While acid-related conditions such as ulcers or esophagitis can be the cause, you should see your physician for a complete history and physical exam. Things to consider would be pancreas problems, irritable bowel syndrome or even musculoskeletal disorders.

I hope you find this information useful. Please do stay in touch and let us know how you are doing once you see your doctor. We'd be interested in hearing what you find out!

    Take care!
