I have a 3.5 month old with acid reflux. I just stumble on to this website. I'm looking for advice on medication that other mom's have tried. So far pepcid worked for my son but wasn't strong enough to last a 24 hour period. Since my GI doc said he is too young for 3 doses per day, she switched him to previcid. When I tried melting the tablets I couldn't fathom my 3 month old taking it...so I called the doctor back and asked for another liquid drug. He is now on day 2 of Axid - which he gets 3 doses of a day. Does anyone else have any insight to Axid...did it work, etc? I just read that some Mom's using previcid just actually wet the pill and insert it into their childs check with their finger, is this correct? I would have loved to have used that medication, but just couldn't figure out how to get a pill to liquify enough for a 3 month old. Thanks for any info. Kind Regards, Teresa

Hello Teresa,

So sorry little Jake is struggling with reflux. I am so glad you found our support community!

It can be challenging to get a baby to take medication. The Prevacid solutab may be dissolved in water and sucked into a syringe. The Prevacid website does have directions. Often the pharmacist can give you detailed directions and a small medication syringe to use. I have heard that some of the particles may stick to the syringe so it has to be mixed well. The tab can also be placed in the cheek.

Axid and Pepsid are different brands of acid reducers while Prevacid is a proton pump inhibitor. The medications work slightly differently.

Every baby is different so finding the right medication can take some trial and error. I hope some other moms will tell their medication stories.

I have a baby who is now 9 months 3 weeks , he had acid reflux since he was 2 months old and it stopped at the 6 months, but for him the medicaition didnt really help him , we switched to special AR milk plus here what was useful to him , I give him 3ml of Starch with water before his formula in 30 min, it really helped him , give it a try maybe it works also good with him you can ask ur dr too.

since he is 3,5 months that means not so far from 4 months where u can start abit of solids for him.

good luck

My DD is now 4 mths old and has been on prev for 2 mths.  I disolve her dosage in 4ml water, stir gently to disolve the tab, and then use a dropper from the gas drops. (I have an large of amount of these droppers.)  I tilt her back like she is drinking a bottle and then drop it in the back of her mouth at the rate she can swallow. (She now just sucks it out of the dropper.)  I takes about 5 or 6 fillings of the dropper to get it all down.  This works for me.  We saw results in a few days.  She was like a new baby.  Good luck.

I didn’t know how many people suffer from Acid-reflux, I will try to help as many as I can, I’m 59 years old, 3 years ago I was suffering from Acid-reflux, I tried just about all the drugs in the market but, it didn’t help much, and the side effects were terrible, a friend of mine told me about this natural food supplement that he tried, I ordered and tried myself, it was amazing, no side effects, safe for all ages including babies, I didn’t have to go on a diet, I eat and drink anything any time as much as I want, and I mean anything including coffee, sodas. pizza, chocolate spicy foods (my wife is mexican),. I didn’t have to make any lifestyles changes, I don’t have to elevate my head when I sleep and it lasted for more than a year, I had to order it 2 times since for myself and 1 time for my daughter and my son, my daughter was 18 years old and 32 weeks pregnant, my son was 10, the baby is now 13 months old and my daughter and my son had forgotten about Acid-reflux, until two weeks ago my daughter ask me for the web site address  because one of her friends at school have reflux, I have told many of my friends about it, try it and tell your friends too, let me know if it work for you, the web site is betasupplements.com.
