looking for a connection

I take care of my grandson who is treated for acid reflux.  He is 7 months old and has just started on fruits and vegetables.  Within a week of these new foods he had a terrible diaper rash which caused him to cry as soon as he

was wet.  We're treating him for the diaper rash and have gone back to cereal and only one serving of fruit/veg. per

day until we talk to his doctor.  Could this be related to acid reflux?  Otherwise he is a very pleasant baby and a good eater and sleeper.  His only real symptoms are some vomiting and a wheezing sound when he coughs.  He does take 15ML of Ranitidine.

Hello!

Certainly it is a good idea to check in with the doctor about the rash. As a Reflux Mom, I have found that my babies needed a very slow and steady approach to new foods. Some of it was adjusting to the taste and the texture-they were very wary of that. In addition, it seemed that their digestive systems were not up to the job. In talking to other Reflux moms, it isn't unusual to hear that baby food wasn't well accepted or digested for weeks or even months. Your little grandson may need a slow and steady approach.

Certainly a rash after ingesting a food may be a sign of a rash or food intolerance so new foods may need to be introduced more slowly and carefully. Some of the fruits such as peaches and apples are high in acid. Sweet potatoes, white potatoes, carrots and pears are often tolerated by babies at risk for food allergies.

In response to the diaper rash: If the rash looks scalded red as though the infants bum touched hot water then that is a sign of a true allergy. At 7 months you can have you grandson tested for all sorts of allergens. Even peas can be an allergen since they contain lots of protein. If you notice a frequent red bum and some bump like pimples or dots or if the skin is uneven in texture you could be looking at CANDIDA ALBICANS. This is a yeast infection. If this is the case, seek out the internet for remedies. Also, you might want to add a probiotic to your grandson's diet. This will help adjust all the good flora in his gut and help him digest foods. You can find this over the counter at any health food store or Whole foods.
