Acid reflux disease is also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD o).  Its a chronic health condition where stomach acids which are responsible for the digestion of tge food we consume, are pushed back into the esophagus or trachea.

As a result, the lining of the esophagus can have extensive damage and lead to a burning sensation in the chest region. Although it can affect both men and women, it has been found that a large number of men tend to suffer from acid reflux disease.

Your lifestyle and habits like smoking and alcohol consumption are often more susceptible to this disease. Sometimes, acid reflux symptoms in men lasts just a short period of time and sometimes they can last many hours.

Acid Reflux Symptoms in Men

The symptoms of acid reflux disease vary in each case.  Here are some of the most commonly observed symptoms of acid reflux in men

Heartburn: This is one of the most common symptoms of acid reflux in men..  Can be described as a sharp, burning sensation felt in the zone between the base of the throat to the end of the sternum. This symptom gets worse after eating, sleeping or lying down.  If heartburn is severe, then the result is sharp pain in the chest.

Difficulty swallowing: Many people complain that they have difficulty swallowing due to acid reflux into the esophagus. While swallowing food, some may experience a sore throat and chest pain.

Others have the feeling that food is stuck in the chest region. This is a serious symptom and should not be ignored and a doctor should be consulted for proper treatment.

Dyspepsia: This condition is usually reported by patients as an unpleasant sensation in the stomach. It gives a feeling of fullness in the stomach and frequent belching, therefore, patients lose interest in food. Sometimes, they may even feel nauseous after eating anything. If this symptom occurs quite often, then you should check with the doctor.

Abdominal pain: This symptom of acid reflux tends to repeat over and over again. Its severity can vary from time to time. Sometimes abdominal pain can be mild and improve itself. At other times, might give a feeling of a bad pulled muscle in his stomach.

Other symptoms: sore throat and cough are two other common symptoms that are noticeable especially in the early stages of acid reflux disease. A bile reflux occurs after the patient begins to vomit bile. This leaves a taste in the mouth pain may get extended to the throat as well.
