You can breathe your way to curing acid reflux

By cognitivefun Monday, November 19, 2007

Acid reflux is often found in conjunction with irrititable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Crohn's, as well as allergies and asthma. Many GERD sufferers also suffer breathlessness.

There is a reason for this common constellation of health problems.

First, let's see what the medical establishment says about GERD and reflux. They claim that this condition is caused by excess stomach acid. The acid affects the lining of the esophagus and can cause a precancerous condition.

The problem with this supposed cause is that it is an effect, not a cause.

If acid reflux is caused by excessive stomach acid, then why would GERD suffers so often suffer from IBS and allergies? Why would something like half of asthma sufferers also have chronic heartburn?

There is no stomach acid in the bowel. Or in the lungs.

It turns out that the solution to acid reflux is to get to the cause. That cause is very low carbon dioxide levels in the body.

You can prove this to yourself. Caution: Do this only a little bit, or at your doctor's office. What you do is simply hyperventilate for a minute -- blow in and out rapidly.

This results in symptoms hitting for most people within a minute or so. And this shows them that hyperventilation is linked to GERD.

Indeed it is. When you hyperventilate, you exhale too much carbon dioxide and your levels get too low. GERD is one result. Asthma and allergies are another. Even high blood pressure, IBS and diabetes are linked.

The solution is in simple breathing exercises that you do several times per day. The system was discovered and refined by a famous professor in the former Soviet Union, Professor Buteyko. Asthmatics use it to cure asthma. I cured my asthma and GERD completely with the exercises. Perhaps you can cure yours too.

I run a blog that discusses this natural heartburn remedy. Check it out. Thank you.
