Hi Mary,

   I joined the acid reflux con. early last year. But I know exactly how you feel since January of 2007 up until now my problem is just now stabilizing but I still have bouts with Choking etc.  I have acid relfux and terrible sinus's, and IBS/constapation etc. And for the longest time when my sinus's would act up with a terrible sinus infection and I would have heavy drainage going down the back of my throat and they would put me on a antibotic etc. and nasal sprays, plus predisone. But I would still have a horrible time with the drainage and I mean you would look in the back of my throat and see heavy white stikes etc.and I thought I am going to choke to death. And yes I have a terrible fear of choking. And then I would keep going to my allergy dr. and we would try this and that with no results sometimes and then he talked about me having acid reflux well I have had stomach problems most of my life but never acid reflux, so I had the upper endoscrope done and bingo I have that too matter of fact I have it so bad that guess what, it is going up my ephsogus past my throat into my sinus!!!!! And at first I did not believe it so I made an app. with a ENT. dr. and they did a nasal scope. etc. and she ruled to that my problem was that. Plus I also suffer with IBS/constapation. And since I do not go like normal people sometimes I could wait 5 days and still not function. And what that is doing is the gas in my stomach is pushing up making the acid reflux worse. So as you can see I have a triple wammie here. But it has taken over a year to get to the source of my problem so they tried me on prevcid, and the 3 other drugs in the same family and it did not do me judice. But my last resort was Nexium in which that is in the same med. family and it worked like a charm, So I take that, and PCM chewables it's a form of benedryl. and Atarax a form of allergy pill and just now Mary my problem's are stabilizing and I am feeling like a human being again. BUT ONE THING FOR SURE;;;;;;;;;;;;;; i am very very careful to chew everything even my pills I crush them up. Oh and also when i had the upper scope done my gastro dr. did find a stricture in my esphogus and they had to take and blow it up with a balloon the scope but one part of my throat was the size of a veggie pea. and I too have choked on food and meds it happened twice! But I truely know how you feel unless you have walked in my shoes and felt the panic of choking and you can't get air and something is lodged in your throat it is terrifing. But slowly with all this I am feeling alittle better each day and I don't have all that congestion. So I hope this will help you some and feel free to chat with me. Oh one last thing about choking my dad is a firemen of course he is dead now but several years back I had to take these pills and I swallowed one and honey it got stuck and my dad had to do the heimlich prodsedure on me. on me what a nightmare.So ever since then like I said I chew everything pills etc. Take care and I hope this will help you .
