Just went to a new, young doctor/gastroenterologist about my acid reflux and he suggested that the erythomycin that I had been taking for several years for emptying my stomach as part of the GERD treatment was probably under researched and outmoded, so I have discontinued it, per his instructions!  It also has a "bad" interaction with another medication that I take.

Becasuse of erythomycin, I loss my hearing.  Erythomycin is an ototoxic drug and it will cause losing hearing, and/or become hard of hearing.  Dr. Neil Bauman, is a specialiast who studies and writes books about hearing loss and also warns people about the effects of numerouse drugs and chemicals that harm, not only our ears, but acide reflux problems that I also have.  Dr. Neil G. Bauman can be reached at 49 Piston Court, Stewartstown, PA.  17363-8322..Phone (717) 993-8555....e-mail: guidepost@hearinglosshelp.com

Good Luck and please ask your pediatrician to other drugs that will help him with his acid reflux and hopefully not harm his ears or other parts of his little body.

I will not take any drugs until I check them out in Dr. Bauman's book.  He also write a newsletter in the computer and if you write to him he will answer your questions.  Please ask the Gastro Dr. to change this drug.  I will not erythomycin for acid reflux or any of the mycin drugs as they can be very harmful for other illnesses too.

Thanks for the editorial. I however would like some information on the prevacid drug. I have been after a gall bladder surgery laproscopy or however you spell it, did not resolve the problem. For over 10 years I have taken a prevacid in the morning before I eat or start my day and this has worked. Should I have to make taking this drug a lifestyle and if not what else can I DO??
