    Dear Confused Wife,
Thank you for your message. It is worrisome that your husband is having symptoms that are so severe that he cannot work. I know you both want to find a solution to this problem.

I am not a doctor so I cannot tell you whether your husband has Gastroesophagel Reflux. I do know that a doctor may prescribe medication as a way to test if a patient has Gastroesophageal Reflux. If the symptoms get better, the treatment can continue. If the symptoms do not get better, it may mean that another treatment is needed or further tests are needed. I encourage you to go back to the doctor and tell him/her the Nexium did not reduce the symptoms.

In addition, I would encourage you and your husband to keep a journal of the symptoms you are seeing for a few days before the doctors appointment. This might include food and drink intake, medication taken, time of symptoms, type of symptoms. This information will give the doctor the "big picture" about what happens day to day.

I wonder if your husband has been evaluated by a Gastroenterologist. This is a fancy name for a specialist in digestive conditions.

Take care and let us know what you find out.

    Best wishes, Jan
