hyperactivity in an 8 yr old?

By pm2000 Monday, May 05, 2008

Hi -

My 8 year old just recently started on Prevacid. Both her teacher, and us (parents) have noticed a spike in hyper-activity, she is not an ADD dignosed child, but is all of a sudden exhibiting ADD type behaviors; is this a symptom of the medication? Any replies appreciated.

Hello!

It is always a good idea to start with the prescribing doctor and pharmacist when there is a question about medication side effects. You want to make sure the dose and medication schedule are correct and discuss the concern about side effects.

Prevacid and the PPI's are generally safe and well tolerated. There is always the possibility that an individual patient will have a unwanted side effect from ANY medication. Often, the problem is short term as the body adjusts to the medication.

The doctor may suggest:

waiting a few more days or weeks to see if the symptoms go away

lowering the dose

trying a different brand of the same type of medication

Trying a different type of medication

Keep in touch and let us know if you need further assistance.

Please think twice before you put your child on Prevacid.  Prevacid will prevent your child from absorbing necessary nutrients from the food she eats.

Why not try this remedy that is 100% safe and effective with NO SIDE-EFFECTS:
