acid reflux could be releted to lichen planus of the mouth ????

By adriana Wednesday, June 03, 2009

I've been living with acid reflux for many years and I've been taking all the medication on the market  Losec , Prevacid , Nexium, and now pantoloc  , I've also been suffering of lichen planus in the mouth for many years and very often I have bleeding in the mouth. Could the two condition be related ?? I've been for long on BP medication and  colesterol med.   I hope you can help    Thank you

Hello,

I am not familiar with a lichen planus. Please explain. However, you are on a lot of medications for different conditions. Ask your primary care doctor to review your medications and make sure all are needed and are not interacting. Also, see if any of the medications could cause a worsening of your reflux symptoms.

I've never heard of it either so I looked it up and read about it. It's interesting that it does say it can be caused by medication. One site I read said that it can be made worse by acidic foods, so if you aren't adequately controlled by meds it seems increases oral acidity could certainly make it worse. I agree with Jan that it is really important to make sure that you have one doctor looking at your list of meds to make sure that none of them could be making things worse.
