Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 08:19 AManother b-y call from doctor. i've been up all night peeing & heartburn is back... looked up the Lexapro info. & it says "CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience stomach pain, black or tarry stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, unusual bleeding or bruising, vision changes, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, uncontrolled movements (tremors), chest pain, muscle cramps, seizures, painful or prolonged erection, change in amount of your urine, severe nervousness or anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, difficulty sleeping, feelings of irritability" I guess that doesn't matter I didn't want to call but I was concern... She was like this isn't ugrent & not worth calling at 4am(it was 5) & you called the other doctor on call when it wasn't urgent (chest pains not urgent?)... plus there's nothing I can tell you to do but drink more Which I have been doing it comes right back out... Then she was like you could stop taking the drug if it's that bad... Am I out of line? I mean I've given these people like $300 out of my pocket & I have no idea what's wrong w/me... I am suppose to go in for an ekg test this coming wends & now I don't know if I want to go... I am so upset & angry & sleepy
ps. this med. can causes heartburn... & she gave it to me when the issue has been heartburn.

Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 11:29 PMHi Lissa,
I don't recall what kind of doctor you are seeing, whether you went to an urgent care or the hospital, but it really sounds like they are not listening to your needs. Clearly if you are experiencing any of the side effects listed that state you should call a doctor, then they should listen to you and any doctor or medical facility has an answering service/nurse on call for this very reason. Is there another doctor at this facility that you can see?
If they are calling for an ekg but do not appear to be concerned about chest pains, then someone is not listening. See if you can see someone who is more specialized in the issue at hand.
Please stay in touch and do let us know how you are doing!

Monday, April 14, 2008 at 08:38 PMHi Vicki. I went to a small family practice my friend knew in the town I live in. I have a problem w/doctors & she knew this place was good & understanding. The first doctor I had was great, she listened & asked why I was stressed... & offered unmedical adivice to solve it. Friend is getting out of abusive marriage, doctor suggest I call an abuser surviver place, that they are there for friends & family of victems too. The Er doctor was even great, gave me xanax for the hard, scary nights explained it to me & gave me info. This other doctor was given to me cause the first was out of town for a few days. She didn't listened at all it seems, did a quick check. Then saw they hadn't done a blood or stool sample & sent me over to a place to have that done (they don't do either at their place). When I told her I was scared she told me to take Lexapro, which as we now know was not the answer. She still wanted me to take it... I feel better off. My panics were worse on it... and the having to pee like every few minutes went away like the next day. She has told me nothing about the pain in my chest. I stopped the Prilosec OTC about a week ago, cause I felt it wasn't working. She told me to take Zantac... which isn't it the same as Prilosec? She's doing the EKG because I've been on her about the pain in my chest & I need to know it's not my heart... I wish I could get another doctor, but since it's a small place I think it would be better to stick it out. Soon I'll be covered by Kaiser & will beable to choose my doctor.

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 10:39 AMHey Lissa,
Well you've got a couple things going on here. First you have a good doctor, and a not so good doctor. You want to try to make sure you see the good doctor, the one who cares about you and what you are going through. Sometimes that is not possible because we know the good ones are booked up. But remember, YOU manage your care with your doctor's advice, and if you have a doctor who is not listening to you, then don't see that doctor.
Next, the medicines you've been prescribed. The Lexapro has known issues including the side effects you described and it sure sounds like it was not working for you. If the Xanax was working, why did they make you switch? Also, Prilosec is a proton pump inhibitor. It inhibits the stomachs ability to make acid, where as Zantac is an H2 histamine blocker. They essentially perform similarly by doing different things. If you react well to one and not the other, it's nice to have a choice. I find the Zantac works well for me.It's good that you will have Kaiser medical soon, but even so remember YOU are the consumer, YOU manage your care with your Doctor's help and advice.
Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!!

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at 08:16 PMThanks Vicki. Had the EKG test earlier today, unfortuntly w/the same doctor. It was too late to get a new one, plus w/my wedding this weekend I didn't want to be worrying about it. I set her straight, nicely. And it actually seemed like she was listening & taking what I said to heart. The test went fine, my heart looks good form this test. I described the pain I have been having again. And she felt where it was & thinks it's the cartalge that got irrated on my left side in my rib cage. Och! She said the only thing I can do is a cold compress & tyleno. I am going to look it up. Cause she didn't tell me if it was caused by all the acid, burping or coughing, or a combo of the three. She's going to be gone next week, so if I have any issues I'll have to talk to some one else. Hopefully I'll be fine until I get to go to Kaiser. The heartburn has flaired up a few times in the pass couple of weeks. But I am going to stay away from caffinee for awhile & very spicy food & a lot of citrus, until I get a better picture.

Lissamonkey,
You are having a time of it for sure. Have you tried any of the Immodium products for the diahrrea? They have an over the counter generic version of it. Also, make sure you are taking in plenty of liquids. If your stools are runny, it will dehydrate you. (That is what it sounds like you have going on with the dry skin) You also might have a bit of a stomach bug going on with the acid reflux. I know I sent you the links to try some of the natural rememdies. Here they are again.
Dr Eisner recommends chickory root boiled into a tea. Also Papaya and Pineapple. Both aid in digestion. You can read that posting here.
Do stay in touch and let us know how you are doing. If you are having a good day let us know, but if you are having a challenging day, reach out and tell us and we'll look into the books and see what magic we can conjour up!
Take care!
