I'm a board-certified gastroenterologist practicing in Boca Raton, Florida since 1995. I was always fascinated with science as a child and decided to become a doctor to use this interest along with helping people. After medical school, I began my internal medicine residency, where I developed a stron...

Dr. Eisner, For the last 3 months I have been struggling with the feeling of a thick sore throat, clearing my throat, pressure at the base of my throat and in my chest, burping, every once in awhile the impression after I swallow of bubbles coming up and occasionally feeling like I have a hard time swallowing especially liquids and soft foods. I did the swallowing barium tests which showed only a slight liquid drop towards my esophagus. The gastroentologist thought my swallowing muscles were moving a bit slow for a 50 year old woman so I was sent to a neurologist who tested me for MS and MGravis both negative. I was then sent to an ENT doctor who said my upper throat looked good and was tested for allergy and autoimmune, both negative. He suggested I might have acid reflux. When this first all started, I used Mylanta for a couple weeks then took Zantac for 3 days which made me feel worse so I stopped that. The ENT suggested trying Prilosec. I tried that 2 days and felt pressure in my head, upset stomach and difficulty focusing mentally so I stopped taking it. I'm waiting to hear back from my gastroentologist on what to try next. I have raised my bed, am watching my diet. I exercise regularly and am small in build. Do you have any suggestions for me? I am at a loss....

Dr Eisner, I've had terrible heartburn for many years. Recently I happened to find a product called Aloecure at Walgreens. It's said to help reduce acidity naturally. I've tried 4 bottles, and it really work. Have you heard about the product? Do you think it will cause any side effects to people like me?

My little nephew is sufferring from Acid Reflux and has difficulties eating. Even though he's been followin a treatment for the past 6 months, progress has been slow i.e. still below average weight. What's the average time of recovery for such cases?

    Thank

I've done a lot of reading about acid reflux as I suffered from it for years. After being advised to better understand the foods that I was eating, I changed my diet and feel much better. I look forward to reading your material.
