LONG TERM USE OF PROTON PUMP INHIBITORS
Bruce M. Cox
Thursday, January 03, 2008 at 08:04 AMAre you saying that this medication, like Nexium and Prilosec, affect calcium utilization and can be related to bone loss? I, nor my doctor, have seen research reports of this. Is there evidence of a connection between long term use of PPI's and bone loss? I am 72 and in "good health", so, the implications of my long term use of Prilosec are very significant, going on now for 3 years.

There are a few articles describing how the drugs may increase the risk of hip fracture.
