Hi PD,
I left you a few links in your previous posting, but wanted to send you some more information I found here. You might try checking out your symptoms here in the symptoms database. There might be something you think is GERD that isn't, or something you are overlooking in your day to day life that you should tell your doctor about. Also, in the treatments database located here, there might be some useful information that you haven't seen before. I will keep looking for stuff.
Hang in there and let us know how you are doing!

Hi PD,
I ran across a posting by a member named Antoinette1963. She also had a chronic cough and had given up using Protonic for another treatment. She is now having success taking Chlor-Trimeton, Singulair and Cymbalta. You might ask your doctor if any of these medicines might benefit you as well. You can read the full posting here.
Hope this information helps. Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!

I have the same thing, but am not taking anything for it. I sure would like to know what to do about it. It gets worse if food tries to go down the wrong 'pipe' and I cough up the food, then all heck breaks out. Also, if I start laughing and laugh hard, I end up coughing for days. It sounds like I'm really sick when in fact I'm not. Does anyone have any ideas??

Thank heaven there is someone else that has my very symptons, I thought I was going nuts. I`m not taking any thing either and it`s so embarassing to start this coughing in public and people asking you if you are okay when you can barely breath let alone talk. Nothing seems to help the cough-water or etc. I just have to cough and cough until I feel okay, then I`m exausted.Doctors have told me I have asthma, chronic bronchitis and has given dozens of RX`s & nothing helps. I can even start coughing if I swallow my salavia the wrong way & laughing is just out of the question---so I know exactly how you feel---sure wish I knew what was going on !
Hi,
I have had the cough for 7 years and in my late 30's. Now I take a nutritional product that has changed my life with this. If you are interested in hearing more you can email back an email or contact information and I can share more. Medications didn't work for me and doctors said surgery wasn't an option. I searched and searched as I would get reflux/coughing attacks 4 times a night and wake up out of a deep sleep. Now I don't have any acid just bile during night when lying down, but no heartburn or cough! It's all natural and basic food in a shake. I take 3 a day.

I would love to know the details of what has helped you. I just recently started having severe coughing attacks which started with post nasal drip and just cannot get a good nights sleep due to waking up coughing every hour or so. My lungs hurt, my stomach hurts and I get headaches from all the coughing. My RA doctor said it is acid reflux. Please help. Thanks.

Hi Mike,
Feel free to email me at summerrain007@hotmail.com and we can talk there about what has given me back my health and life. I used to wake up with severe coughing attacks as well that happened nightly. I used to have heartburn 24X7 and now can eat what I want and don't have that burn in my throat all day long. I am 38 and felt like my life had aged.
I look forward to talking with you.

Hi... your input in the site was from last year but am hoping you can give me a few pointers as you had noted. Seem to have the same symptoms...dry persistent cough mostly at night in a deep sleep. have been taking acid meds, but don't see a real improvement. Have been told a few years ago that I have allergic asthma, but using the asthma meds don't really help with this cough. So if you are still using this site and can give me a few tips. Thanks!!
Hello, I just found this site. Can anyone please help ? I've had a cough for over 7 years. I seem to be treated for all upper respritory infections under the sun. I have had a post nasal drip for ever. I wake up at night coughing. It is so emabarasssing in public places when I start coughing and can't stop.It is so exhausting. What can you offer me for medications that work and end my cough for good. Thanks, Cathy
I START COUGHING WHEN I GET UP AND USUALLY CANT STOP FOR ABOUT 5 MIN.
I HAVE A NASAL DRIP THAT CAUSES CLEARING OF MY THROAT FOR MANY YEARS AND IT CAUSES PEOPLE TO TURN AND STARE WHEN OUT IN PUBLIC AND CREATES PROBLEMS ON THE PHONE
MY FATHER HAD IT ALSO
I SMOKED CIGARS FOR 50 YRS AND QUIT 6 MONTHS AGO WITH NO TROUBLE.
THE COUGHONG IS ACCOMPANIED WITH A SCRATCHY FEELING IN THE THROAT
Hello Jayme,
A chronic cough needs to be evaluated by your primary care doctor. You may need further treatment or a referral to a specialist such as an allergist, pulmonologist (lung specialist) or an otolaryngologist, also known as an Ears, Nose and Throat doctor.
Cough can be triggered by gastroesophageal reflux, allergies, post nasal drip and other reasons. Once you find out what is triggering your cough, you can start to control it.
Best of luck-you will feel much better if you aren't coughing so much.

Hi PD,
I ran across an article that Dr Eisner posted, where he states that sometimes double dosages of the medication being prescribed is required for chronic cough. He also cautions that anyone having chest pain and/or chronic cough should discuss with their doctor about treatments available. You can read the article here. There is also a very good article here about the severe chest pain and chronic cough associated with GERD.
Good luck and please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!!

I use a couple of dark chocolate kisses to stop most coughs instantly! And with the dark, I get a few antioxidants as well.
