I am new to this site. I have been dealing with acid reflux for years and am at the point of total discouragement. I was always hopeful of the different medications but know am considering surgery. Some times it seems as though people do not understand what we go through, or like they dont think it is a big deal. I guess you have to experience it to really understand. I would love to hear from any one who has had surgery or any other remedies that might help

I just found out that my reflux, unbeknownst to me, has been soooo bad, even with medication, that my vocal cords and my entire laryngeal area is inflammed. I have very bad laryngitis and will be go to a speech pathologist to help me to decrease the inflammation on the vocal cords. I am now taking Nexium once daily and OTC Prilosec once daily. No coffee, no chocolate, no soda, no etc...... what is there to live for?????
I have almost all the same symtoms, however, I have this cough that comes with it and it is killing me. It drives me nuts and makes everyone around me want to call 911. I almost pass out when I start coughing and the headaches afterwards last for hours. This doctors give no hope other than keep taking more and more drugs. Does anyone have any better ideas?
I had the same symptoms. Doc told me to quit smoking and easy on the red wine. He likes red wine. He prescribed Omeprazole and I quit smoking. My laryngitis cleared up in about a week. My acid reflux is almost non existent.

I know it is hard but you can do it. There is a new drug called Kapidex, it is time released. You might try it. The nexium can cause you to be depressed. It sounds like maybe it has done that to you. It sure did me and I don't want to go back there. There is something new all the time. Hang in there. Also I plan to go to a natural health store and talk to them for help maybe herbal. Don't give up. I have heard the surgery is not that great. That is why I plan to fight it out and find a solution!!B
I have had chronic cough for about 3.5 months now. Been to my primary several times, had a Pulmonary Functions Testing that showed I have a Reactive Airway Disease (RAD). I was prescribed an inhaler, but cough lingered. In addition, I have excessive salivation, throat clearing, choking sensation, but no hurtburn. Primary said she's highly suspicious of acid reflux or GERD, so gave me Aciphex to take once a day. She also put me on Advair. While the coughing has greatly improved, I still have flare-ups that would last an hour or so, and I still have all the other symptoms. She has now put me on Aciphex 20mg twice a day for 8 weeks. Hope it works.
I had asked about a referral to an ENT, but she said ENTs don't like referrals for cases that can be treated by primaries, like RAD and GERD. Now, if all else fail, then it's time to look at other possibilities that could be causing the cough. I just wanted to see an ENT to make sure that nothing else is going on besides acid reflux.
I'd really like to get rid of this cough! Any thoughts?
