Q and A: Barrett's and Ulcers

  • I have Barrett's but I have a question about ulcers.  I am having recurrent hunger pains even an hour to two after eating.  It's a semi-burning just like when you wake up in the morning and your stomach is empty.  It's that hunger pain feeling like you need to eat but it wont go away now!  Does this sound like an ulcer?

It does sound like some of the symptoms of an ulcer or maybe the start of one. A lot of times gastritis or ulcers will initially feel better with eating until they are bad and then it can hurt all of the time.  You may also feel some additional bloating or even nausea.

It can be helpful to remove any triggers for acid reflux and gastritis like tomato, chocolate, alcohol, high fat foods and citrus.  If you still have pain then you might consider having an Hpylori test run.  Hpylori is the bacteria that is thought to cause most ulcers. If you test positive then your doctor will give you antibiotics to get rid of the infection.  This should get rid of the cause of the ulcer but it may still require some additional time to heal.

Gallbladder issues can cause similar symptoms so it is definitely a good idea to have a physician check it out before it gets worse.

    Hope you feel better soon!!
