This is the letter my girls would have written to me before they were born to explain their GERD.  I have seen other parents write something similar.  I think it shows everyone going through the trials of a "reflux baby" exactly how hard it can be.  I hope to those of you in the m...

This letter made me cry for so many reasons. I am an adult with GERD and at least I can explain to others how I am feeling and what I need. It must be so impossibly difficult and upsetting for parents of children with GERD. My heart and prayers go out to all who are suffering.

At least there are flashes of light and happy days ahead. We can overcome the trials of this painful condition.

Thank you for your comment and for your prayers for all the children who deal with GERD.  It is very scary to know your child is in pain and yet most are not able to explain what the pain is or even where it is... very frustrating.

I think a lot of GERD parents will tell you that though their child's pain is VERY hard to deal with the lack of understanding from others is right up there on the list.  We get tons of e-mails from parents (to PAGER) asking us how to explain their child's pain to family members who think they are making it up. I remind them to tell those people that adult GERD has sent many grown men to the ER thinking they are dying of a heart attack... it can be quite painful!

Compassion is a lost art and praise God for those of you who "get it" and are thinking of these kids!  We appreciate you and your comment.

As a mother of a son that had GERD this hit so close to home.  The best thing anyone can do to help it to try to understand and not to cast judgements.  No one truly understands what it is like to have GERD unless they themselves have it or have taken care of someone with it.  Thanks for putting articles like this out there for all to read and to help bring awareness to everyone.

    Hello,

Although my son suffers from silent GERD with very little vomiting, I have had all these emotions that you have described so well in this letter. This is so true. I just keep praying that he does not suffer from GERD when he grows up, because I do.

It's very heart breaking to see your child suffer from something that is not very obviously "wrong" to other folks, who only see her cheerful face, especially when she is not feeding. To them it's not a sick child just a result of "inexperienced parenting"...

    Thanks for sharing this.

    Sonja.
