Preventing Halloween Acid Reflux Flares.

Acid reflux can be a huge PAIN during the holidays. Halloween tends to be a huge issue at our house because chocolate tends to be a massive trigger for myself and my daughter Ella's reflux. As much as I would sometimes love to "opt out" of Halloween, it isn't feasible with our girls. They love the da...

This is a great post. Thank you. Could you recommend some reflux-safe candies? The ones I could think of are Sugar Daddies, gum, lollipops ... I guess the ones without chocolate!!!

Thank you for the feedback!  I really appreciate it.

Obviously, reflux triggers can be different for each person.  For my girls they tend to be fine with the candies that don't contain mint or chocolate.  They love lollypops, starburst, smarties, laffy taffy and animal crackers or cookies.  White chocolate can be a good alternative to the chocolate treats and doesn't seem to bother my girls.  A lot of the chocolate "faves" now come in white chocolate versions too.

That having been said, we have to limit the quantity of treats as well so they are allowed to have one piece after a healthy meal.  This also helps to prevent any candy induced tummy troubles.  Hope that helps!

By peanut butter kisses, I mean those toffee-like candies that are soft and wrapped in either orange or black waxed paper. They look good. And are caramels okay?

My girls do not have problems with either of those treats affecting acid reflux.  Be careful though, just because mine are not bothered doesn't mean they won't bother you or someone else.  The best bet is to limit ammounts when you are not sure if it will bother you.

If you are asking for a young child be careful because some of the caramels and toffees can be hard to chew and can be choking hazzards.
