Heartburn and Stomach Pain

By ddub44 Saturday, January 26, 2008
I don't see this topic written enough. It changed mylife. I used to suffer from heartburn and stomach pain, until I was tested for helicobactor pylori bacteria. It was in my stomach and after antibacteria treatment my problems were solved. No longer did I need Rolaids or Mylanta every day. I can't tell you the last time I needed antacid. It's a relatively recent finding. I'm hoping that weiting this will help someone. Make sure your doctor has looked into it.

Hi ddub4,

You are so right when you say not enough is written about the H Pylori bacteria. I was treated for H Pylori last year. The only issue for me is that the treatment was almost as bad as the bacteria! I had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics used.

One thing my physician told me was that H Pylori has been named as the chief cause of stomach ulcers and that people who would have ordinarily had to have surgery, were able to avoid that once the bacteria was treated.

H Pylori has been known to cause peptic ulcers, gastritis as well as being linked to the development of stomach cancer, among other conditions. You can read a little about the bacteria and issues here.

There is also an interesting article located here about how there is an alternative treatment for H Pylori for people like me who can not tolerate the antibiotic treatment. Approximately 25 percent of all people with the bacteria do not respond to the ordinary treatment of 2 antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor.

Now as bad as H Pylori might seem, it appears there is something that the bacteria does that is beneficial to people with asthma and allergies. There is an article here from HealthDay News that says research from the New York University School of Medicine, suggests that this bacteria might actually protect a person from asthma and allergies as well as protecting a person from GERD. Apparently H Pylori is bad for the stomach but good for the esophagus.

Thanks for bringing this topic up. Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
