Friday, November 13, 2009 at 06:06 AMHi Roland,
I have a hiatus hernia and have suffered all the usual symptoms associated with it over the past year or so. In August I had a manometry and ph tests done. Since these tests I have suffered the same throat problems you describe. I have had difficulty swallowing, it hurts to talk and is just generally uncomfortable in my throat. I have lost a lot of weight because of this. I saw the surgeon the other day, he wants to operate on my hernia, but won't until my throat is sorted out. He has referred me to an ENT specialist and I am having another Barium meal x ray in a couple of weeks. I have been put on Diazipam for a couple of weeks to relax my throat muscles and have been told to sip lots of water. When my throat was at it's worst, I was put on Domperidone for a while and this did help.
I hope you find some relief. If you do please let me know what the answer is!

Hello, It must be frustrating to try so many medications and not have relief from your symptoms. It might make sense to get a consultation with your primary care doctor or a gastroenterologist to look at non medication and medication treatments for the GERD at this point. Diet, positioning, lifestyle changes and careful eating may help you manage the symptoms along with the medication. The doctor can also guide you on using other medications or combinations of medication.
