My daughter is 18 and my Grandson is 2 months she has gone to the doctors 7 times , the doctor kept saying it is normal to spit up even what she told him it was most of what he eats she made it clear  that he Projectile  vomits what appears to be more then he eats at each feeding, and vomits throughout the day and night.  Today I went with her to the doctor because I feel the doctors seems to somewhat ignore her concern about this because she looks really young and is young, I felt they were passing it off as an over reactive young mother. She is a good mother but has not learned how to advocate to doctors yet ( and that is hard to learn)  At any rate I went with her and made her say I need some kind of test done this is not normal, the doctor looked at me and I said “like she said it is not normal and I know what normal spit up is for a baby”  So this time they talked more and asked more and then after a few minutes I said ok so it is time to feed him how about we feed him a bottle here and you see what happens of course the doctor says I don’t have time to wait for you to feed him but you can sit by the nurses station and feed him and we will go from there. The kids had perfect timing he drank about an ounce and  the doctor walked by and wow right then it happened and got all over the doctors coat. Tomorrow we go for a test with a scope but he is sure it is Gerd. They said sit him up during feedings. We already had changed him from Milk based to soy that did help a bit but not much, any other ideas? Thanks concerned Grandma in AZ

Dear Grandma in Arizona,

You are a wonderful grandma to help your daughter advocate for your grandson. I am glad your grandson cooperated and performed on cue in the doctors office.

The first step to treatment is getting a diagnosis. Once the test is performed, I hope the doctor has the information he needs to begin treatment. You might need to go to the doctor more frequently until a treatment plan is in place.

Good luck and let us know how everyone is doing!

Best wishes,

Jan Gambino

Never, ever walk away from a doctor's appointment feeling like they did nothing for you. Always seek other advice. Good for you to demand something be done. I am 34 years old and I felt the way your 18 year old daughter did.

I had a similar situation, where my child was ignored for 7 months by a pediatrician and a gastroenterologist, who both said he is refluxing. They wanted to scope his throat and his rectum, to see his intestines. Both require anesthesia.

I declined on both and sought other options. I found a doctor who performed a simple stool analysis and determined my son had a bacterial or fungal overgrowth. He was treated according with a product that does absolutely no harm to the body with no side effects!

He stopped "spitting up" two days later.

He never had another other problems.
Ask yourself if you know what "GERD" really is. Ask why is this happening?

If you would like the answer, please let me know, I would be happy to explain this to you.

Take care and God Bless

Hi, Iam not sure if you have received a diagnosis yet but it sounds like pyloric stenosis.

my brother had this as a newborn. It does require surgery, but easy to fix. This is more common in boys than girls. There is a pyloric valve that everyone has in order for food to move into the stomach. When a baby has pyloric stenosis that valve is pinched or narrow, causing the food to come back up usually in a projectile manner. sometimes across a room. hopefully you have an answer already but thought this info may help.
