Hello everyone I'm new to this site and so glad i found it hopefully someone out there has some anwsers for me. I have been suffering for 8months now, started out with terrible sinus & allergy's then as I went on my allergy dr. and gastro dr. said it also could be acid reflux? They also said that most likely the acid is going into my sinus since I have allergys so bad. I've been on Nexium 40mg. now for about 3 wks and it does help but after that wears off I start getting that drainage something aweful at times clearing my voice and at times I feel like I am going to suffiociate can't breathe!!! Also take Atarax for the allergys and bendryl etc. So if anybody on this site can give me advice it would be most appreciated because my nerves have JUST ABOUT had it! Thanks for listening. Linda H.

Hello! Welcome to our community! There is much support and information here.
It can be really challenging to figure out the symptoms and treatments when you have two conditions. I am sure you and the doctor are wondering: is the sinus drainage from an infection, allergies or reflux? Sometimes reflux will trigger sinus drainage and sometimes the sinus drainage will cause a worsening of the reflux. It sounds like your doctor is trying a combination of treatments to control all of the symptoms. You and the doctor will need to evaluate your progress. Perhaps long term treatment is needed or an increase in medication. A new treatment approach may be offered if needed. In addition, some patients with sinus issues and reflux are referred to an Ears Nose and Throat specialist also knowns as an otolarginologist. As your doctor if this is needed.
Keep us updated on your progress and let me know if you need further assistance.

Dear Linda, Thank you for your message. I do not have GERD but my two teens have GERD and I talk with patients and their families 24/7.
It sounds like you are having a lot of symptoms from several different medical conditions. I imagine you are on medication to treat each one. I hope you have one doctor who is helping you to coordinate your care. This might be your primary care doctor or one of the specialists. One of the doctors needs to be looking at the big picture here. What is the primary problem? what are the other problems? Are they all separate problems or related?
I certainly think that it is frustrating to keep going from test to test and doctor to doctor. sometimes it can take a long time to find a solution. That is another reason why it is sometimes important to have one doctor to turn to help you make decisions about the big picture. In the case of further testing for immune issues, I think that is a good idea because it looks at underlying problems.
So I hope you will keep searching for answers. Jan
