Thursday, November 01, 2007 at 11:33 PMHello Jan, thanks so much for welcoming me to the website. It has been a nightmare for me with these 2 things acid reflux and sinus's. I've never been this sick for so long off and on 8months worth. Plus you mentioned an ears, nose and throat yes dear I have been to one and she said she has come to a point that she really doesn't know how to treat me I've had the nasal scope done many times and even a nose culture done in which it came out neg. thank god. She said it would be so easy like if I had polps or something she could operate and cure. But in so many words she said she doesn't know what is wrong there. Plus at times I am running a low grade fever like 99.1 all the way up to 99.6 now i know that is not much but it does show there is infection somewhere in my body. plus I have tried all the nasal sprays, been on different antibotics.plus predisone. And what ever this is just keeps popping back on me. Plus my allergy dr. wanted me to get this special blood test to see if I have auto immune disease since all this antibotic's aren't working I might have that he said oh joy what next. So Jan do you suffer with acid reflux too??? Oh I forgot to mention I have IBS/ constipation on top of all this mess and I know it doesn't help the acid reflux settle down. But i am trying to be positive I always have been that way but this is slowly wearing me down. if you have any other suggests please feel free to drop in. Thanks for listening and have a good evening and a great tomorrow. Lindare: re: Sorting out the symptoms

Friday, November 02, 2007 at 05:46 AMDear Linda, Thank you for your message. I do not have GERD but my two teens have GERD and I talk with patients and their families 24/7.
It sounds like you are having a lot of symptoms from several different medical conditions. I imagine you are on medication to treat each one. I hope you have one doctor who is helping you to coordinate your care. This might be your primary care doctor or one of the specialists. One of the doctors needs to be looking at the big picture here. What is the primary problem? what are the other problems? Are they all separate problems or related?
I certainly think that it is frustrating to keep going from test to test and doctor to doctor. sometimes it can take a long time to find a solution. That is another reason why it is sometimes important to have one doctor to turn to help you make decisions about the big picture. In the case of further testing for immune issues, I think that is a good idea because it looks at underlying problems.
So I hope you will keep searching for answers. Jan

Hello! Welcome to our community! There is much support and information here.
It can be really challenging to figure out the symptoms and treatments when you have two conditions. I am sure you and the doctor are wondering: is the sinus drainage from an infection, allergies or reflux? Sometimes reflux will trigger sinus drainage and sometimes the sinus drainage will cause a worsening of the reflux. It sounds like your doctor is trying a combination of treatments to control all of the symptoms. You and the doctor will need to evaluate your progress. Perhaps long term treatment is needed or an increase in medication. A new treatment approach may be offered if needed. In addition, some patients with sinus issues and reflux are referred to an Ears Nose and Throat specialist also knowns as an otolarginologist. As your doctor if this is needed.
Keep us updated on your progress and let me know if you need further assistance.
