    Hi Kimberly,

Here are some links to help you get the information you need to ask the right questions when you do see the doctor. Your regular doctor should be able to help, but you have to do your homework to know what to ask.

First off, there are great resources right here at health central. There are acid reflux patients and caregivers and medical professionals online here who give lots of advice. You can read the shareposts by Dr Todd Eisner here.

Next, you can familiarize yourselves with GERD, the condition, symptoms and treatments available here. If you were prescribed Nexium you can read about the drug here and it's uses and effectiveness.

You can read the answers of Harvard Medical Professionals here or search shareposts for users who have similar situations here.

Lastly, we're here as a community for you. If you are having a problem,  having a bad day, or if you have some good news to share, just post and let us know. We'd all like to know how you are doing and help if we can.

Take care and stay in touch!

    Good Morning Vicki:

I'm okay now Thank you.... I will see my doctor later about my upper GI. However, I did not get a lot of reflects recently.   Only if I eat fast etc.. I guess I have to eat small meal, slowly etc from now on to avoid any problems.  Any other suggestions that you would like me to know I always welcome advises.

    Thank you Vicki:

    Hi Kimberly!

I am glad you are feeling much better! Yes eating small meals frequently throughout the day instead of a big meal is best. Also, sleeping with your head elevated will help at night. Sleeping on your left side is also recommended. This overview of managing your acid reflux can give you more tips about what to avoid as far as foods. I know it's not good if you smoke, and avoiding acidic foods, particularly fruits is advised.

Good luck and stay in touch. Let us know if you find something that works well for you. Maybe someone else out there has a similar problem and your experience will help!

The acid reflux problem is some time cause by H Pilori bacteria. Even if your doctor knows about this, he or she will prescribe costly medicine like Nexium.

Detection of this bacteria requires simple finger pinching blood test which hardly cost $5.00. If you are detected with the bacteria, a 15 day to month course of amoxciline with acid reducer will cure your problem for a life time.

Doctors and the pharmacy industry does not like to cure the problem permanently. They would like to perform andoscopy and other costly test which will not detect this bacteria as they gorw and reside at the deep inside of the fold in instantine.

Ask your Doctor about H- Pilori test. or consult asian or Indian doctor who is familar with these bacteria.

    Hi Sam,

Dr. Eisner the resident expert and gastroenterologist here at Health Central, recently had a post about H Pylori. Interestingly enough, he says that H Pylori does not cause or contribute to the symptoms of GERD, and even more interesting, appears to have a protective effect. Research indicates that H Pylori appears to not only be beneficial for sufferers of GERD, but Barrett's Esophagus. You can read the full share post here.

I know when we or someone we care about is suffering, it's easy to blame the messenger, or in this case, the doctor. All medical professionals are not created equally and it is up to us as individuals to manage our own care. If you find a doctor you can talk to, then together you can make  choices to ensure you are in the best health possible.

p.s. My doctor is the one who tested for and treated the h pylori when I had it. I did not ask for the test to be done, he did it as a part of my routine yearly physical.

Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!!
