Hi... I have a 12 year old boy who has been experiencing some of the symptoms of Acid Reflux. This has just started within the last month or so at given times. He normally would have quite a strong stomach He has been feeling sick to his stomach, no vomitting. No fever. He feels better during the day. He feels a very dry throat, and even has trouble with his swallowing reflex. What kind of Dr. do we need? Can a kid develop this ?

Your son's primary doctor (pediatrician, family practitioner) should be your first stop. Schedule a separate appointment just to discuss the digestive issues.
I find that it helps to look at a symptoms list with my daughters (ages 14 and 17) and ask them to check off any symptoms they are experiencing. You can take this information to the doctor.
Your 12 year old might be able to help you track the symptoms for a few days or a week so you can let the doctor know how often the symptoms occur.
If he has a sore throat or throat pain, ask him to note it on a calendar or simple chart. How long did the pain last? was it after a meal? at night? etc.
Your doctor will be grateful to have this data to go along with his own assessment. The doctor will look at his pattern of growth, ask him questions about eating, sleep, elimination and symptoms.
Reflux is very common in infants, children and adults. It is believed that several million children have Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). GERD is highly treatable and responds readily to treatment in most cases. Your doctor will be very familiar with GERD. If your child has complications or does not respond to treatment, your doctor may refer him to a pediatric gastroenterologist.
