I have been taking nexium for years. There is no generic and insurance companies are refusing to cover it and other pharmacies are not carrying it. I spent 2 weeks in the hospital recently, and they didn't carry it. I can't afford it. I can't see what the point is in taking it.

Hello,
Medication, whether it is over the counter or prescription costs so much money. Start with your primary care doctor (or the prescribing doctor) and your pharmacist. They may know of a low cost alternative, rebate or lowcost/free program for you. The doctor needs to know if you are unable to afford your medication. He/she is counting on you to take it. If not, he/she needs to figure out another medication/equivalent that you can take to treat the GERD. I often check the manufacturers website for programs, coupons, rebates, etc.
Maybe others will share their solutions to paying for medication. Let us know what you are doing to lower the cost of your GERD medications.

Contact the manufacturer of Nexium, AstraZeneca. They may offer you a deal based on your limited means.
