I had my gallbladder removed about 8 weeks ago and I just seem to be getting sicker. I thought I was crazy and could not be having so much pain now that I had surgery. I have a lot of pain after I eat and end up in the bathroom very shortly thereafter. I have been taking Pepcid twice a day with no...

gallbladder removal

Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 09:42 PMAfter I had gallbladder surgery last summer about 4-6 weeks later I became deathly I'll and real sick after eating. One day I was in so much pain and sick that my immediate family member rushed me to the emergency room of a world renowm medical center at the first day I was placed on I.V. therapy ultrasound scanning revealed bile fluid buildup in my system. I was ordered up a paryncentesis to drain out over two quarts of bile fluid which built up in my system after surgery. I was on the I.V. therapy for 5 days no food, no water either. They balanced out my electrolytes and body fluids ,after the pareyncentesis ,I was released from the hospital the next day. 10 months afyer surgery I am taking 100mg of spironolactone every day and have been able to eat full course meals steak, chicken, fish, lobster tails, hamburger and pork chops, since the day I left the hospital. I thank God for the professionals that cured me with a parencyntesis and fluid therapy. I have been suffering the last month with bile reflux so I will go back to my specialist this week for another ultrasound scan to see if I may need another paryncentesis to drain out more bile fluid . Hang in there an get a scan for bile fluid buildup in your system.

Hi Lynne,
It sounds like you are really having a time of it!! I am glad you are checking in and letting us know about your progress. Now that you have had your gallbladder removed, you might be a little more prone to problems with bile reflux.
From what I have read, bile reflux occurs mostly when someone has had a their gallbladder removed, since they move the bile duct to the stomach when they remove the gallbladder. There are postings about bile reflux (you can read one of them here, there are 134 comments with information about gall bladder removal.) Here is a posted experience from a person who had surgery for the GERD and issues afterwards that she thought might have been bile reflux.
Is pepcid the only medication you are taking for the acid reflux? You can read about pepcid here, and other medicines that are prescribed here.
I hope you found this information useful when you speak to your doctor. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!!
