reflux baby

By paula Saturday, November 27, 2010

my baby is coming up 2 months and has been diagnosed with having reflux at 1 month old, which the doctor perscribed gaviscon infant this was working all the time,  but more and more feeds are getting tougher for my baby and i hate to see her in distress when feeding. She is a happy and smily baby, she will only take about 2-3 ounces and seems to go longer to feed and does not cry a lot for some of her feeds, and does seem in pain and will stiffen up while feeding and she will also make straining noises while feeding ( different to when she is having a poo though) i am using actimol comfort food from birth, she is fine when she is not feeding, what else can the doctor do?

Hello Paula,

As you already know, there are many ups and downs with reflux. Some symptoms get better and others get worse. Feeding and sleep are often the two areas that are most affected by reflux. You and the doctor may spend more time together than you imagined during the next few months. It can take some follow up appointments to check in about weight and food intake and adjust the treatments as needed. There are a lot of well baby check ups in the first year. In addition, you may need to schedule an extra visit in between to check in on the reflux treatment.

I hope your baby is eating better soon. There is nothing worse that struggling to eat and seeing her in pain.

Take care,

Jan
