I have read a lot since I have barrett`s. Before I would have anyone cut me open ( yes do to a lot of things that can goes wrong after ). If at any point or time I need to do something I will go for the light that is inserted into the area that is cancerous. The draw back is you have to stay in the dark for a long time ( think up to 6 month). It has been show to be very good treatment and high suggest rate as well the cost of this is cut by over 3/4% then being cut open .I will look for it and give you the webs were I found it. I personally will stay in the dark then take high risk.Hope this is some what helpful
PS I never in my life had acid reflux yet i been tested and been told i got barett`s . Here is what I think most people who have it are in the late 30 to 50 wow we baby bommers. Microwave oven? What is is the air? What is in the foods we eat now days. Stress? just a thought

    Hi Pam,

There are some postings here about Barrett's esophagus that you might find interesting. A member here named Heza had been diagnosed with Barrett's and here is her story and the links that were suggested for her.

Also here is some information including Dr Eisner's article about treatment for Barrett's.

I hope this helps. Make sure you work with your doctor to determine the best care for your particular condition. Only your doctor and you know what is best for you.

Take care and stay in touch!

    Hello Marie,

The thought of having surgery can be scary, but if you work with your doctor, you and he/she will come up with the best solution for you.

There is alot of great information here at Health Central to help you ask all the right questions. Even though you have probably been told all of this already, there is a really good primer here about acid reflux. There is also a symptoms database here. It is possible you are having symptoms that you might not know are related to the acid reflux and then again, you might have symptoms that you think ARE related that aren't. In the Treatments database here, you can read about the different treatments available including the various surgery options. And if you have been prescribed medicines, you can check them here and find out about any interactions and side effects.

Again, no one knows better than you and your doctor, so these resources are good ones to help you list your questions when it's time to see your doctor.

There is a lot of information about surgical procedures here. You didn't say what kind of surgery you are planning to have. The most common is fundoplication. Some folks who have had the surgery have posted here online about their experiences. One of them is Karla. You can read her postings here. Dr Bryan Vartabedian, also had an article here about minimally invasive surgery.

You can also read from our resident experts, like Dr Eisner (his profile and postings located here) Jan Gambino writes alot about infant GERD, but has some great insight into how to deal with it on a daily basis. (Her profile and postings located here)

I hope this information is helpful. Stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
