odd symptom

By erica259 Friday, January 22, 2010

Hi,

I am so happy to have found this group, I am brand new here, but not to the disease. I have had GERD for years... too long really.  I had found relief, for the most part with Nexium... My Dr wanted meto take 2 a day, but my insurance company wouldn't allow it. Now I have new insurance and they won't cover it at all so I am now taking OTC  24 Prevacid.. it works ok... but it's no Nexium.... I just don't understand how an insurance company can refuse to cover a drug that works....

That is another story..

Anyway... I have an odd symptom.. my mouth burns, my tongue burns alot. I have had it looked at by my dentist.. not a dental problem, my gastro doesn't think it's a big deal... I do though.. it's uncomfortable. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this?

I was suffering awfully of drymouth.  It looked sort of furrowed and red and it felt burnt all of the time.  Because I'm on a lot of medications, all the doctors said "it's probably your meds" and told me to keep hydrated.  I was eating ice all day long to try to make it feel better but nothing really helped.  I even tried liquid saliva but it didn't really help.  One doctor looked in and said "yes it's very dry," then went on to something else.  No one did anything to help.

Finally I went to a hematologist on an unrelated matter.  She said I was low on iron, B6 and B12.  After being on them for several weeks, my tongue is still sometimes dry, but the pain and burning is completely gone.  Deficiencies in these vitamins can make your tongue painful.  I'd suggest looking into it.  It can't hurt, and it's wonderful to be free of at least one source of constant pain!

Hello,

I am the GERD sufferer, and I do come to this site on and off.

But my husband recently had a burning sensation in/on his tongue, whenever he ate mexican food.  This was 4 months ago.

Not to be alarmist, but it turned out to be squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue (tongue cancer.)  Yes, he had smoked for 20 years, but he quit over 20 years ago.   Anyway, his GP did a biopsy, which came back positive for cancer, so she then recommended him to an ENT who did the surgery.

They needed 2 surgeries (each only an hour or so) to remove all the cancer, and he did not require any radiation or chemo.  Not all tongue cancers are this "simple."  Good thing my husband likes mexican food because there was nothing noticeable on his tongue where the cancerous cells were.  Oddly enough, there were 2 spots on his tongue that turned out NOT to be cancerous, but looked suspicious to us.  Had he not be fond of Mexican food, it might have taken longer to discover the problem, and maybe things would not have turned out as well.

I didn’t know how many people suffer from Acid-reflux, I will try to help as many as I can, I’m 59 years old, 3 years ago I was suffering from Acid-reflux, I tried just about all the drugs in the market but, it didn’t help much, and the side effects were terrible, a friend of mine told me about this natural food supplement that he tried, I ordered and tried myself, it was amazing, no side effects, I didn’t have to go on a diet, I eat and drink anything any time as much as I want, and I mean anything including coffee, sodas. pizza, chocolate spicy foods (my wife is mexican),. I didn’t have to make any lifestyles changes, I don’t have to elevate my head when I sleep and it lasted for more than a year, I had to order it 2 times since for myself and 1 time for my daughter and my son, my daughter was 18 years old and 32 weeks pregnant, my son was 10, the baby is now 13 months old and my daughter and my son had forgotten about Acid-reflux, until two weeks ago my daughter ask me for the web site address  because one of her friends at school have reflux, I have told many of my friend about it, try it and tell your friends too, let me know if it work for you, the web site is betasupplements.com.
