Parents often ask me if there is a cookbook for kids with reflux. There is no such cookbook because it would probably be very short or just a book of blank pages. If I was writing a cookbook for kids with reflux, it w...

A cookbook is an awesome idea for moms who have kids with reflux!!!! I was actually just searching the net for one. My son is two and recently was diagnosed with acid reflux, he is a terrible sleeper and now I know why, but WHAT am I going to feed him, he is extremely picky anyway!!!! I will keep searching.....
Rachel,
I found that my refluxers were extremely picky eaters too. Often, they would just eat a few foods-like 10. No kidding. Then one food would be dropped and another would be added. It kept changing. I always tried to keep them interested in new foods and I accomplished this by taking them shopping, letting them select a food here and there, had them help me in the kitchen and let them eat with friends. I made sure they ate with super eaters-kids who ate anything and everything with ease.
I think diet is important with reflux but how we eat is equally important. My refluxers had an "eating window" when they ate the most foods each day. That is when I provided the richest nutrients. They also ate small frequent meals and often limited fluids. Every calorie counted. I used vitamins and nutrition drinks because they preferred carbohydrates and protein and hardly any veggies and fruits. I have written extensively about these topics here on HealthCentral and in my book, Reflux 101.
Let me know a bit more about what your son will eat right now and maybe we can build some recipies and strategies from there.
Best wishes,
Jan
