Each year, I attend several conferences to learn all that I can about Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and related digestive conditions. There are always new products and services featured in the exhibit area. This week, I wanted to share some new products that I learned about at the meeting.
Extreme Cooking for Exceptional Diets: http://www.apfed.org/APFED_Store.html
The American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders (www.apfed.org) has a new cookbook called Extreme Cooking for Exceptional Diets. I love that title! The cookbook helps parents of children with Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) and related conditions such as food allergies cook safely. There are even recipes that only use a limited number of ingredients because sometimes only a few foods are on the “safe” list. This cookbook may help someone with GERD and multiple food allergies eat without triggering symptoms.
Gelmix is a thickener made of organic carob bean gum. The doctor may recommend thickening formula or breast milk for bottle feeding an infant or a thickener may be added to baby food or a child’s beverages due to a swallowing problem called dysphagia. While it is common to use rice cereal in the United States, the United Kingdom and other European countries have used carob bean gum as a thickener for many years. Gelmix is casein, whey, lactose, gluten and soy free. It only adds 5 calories for every two ounces of formula (unlike cereal thickeners). The advantage is the baby will fill up on the nutrient rich formula or breast milk and not the empty calories in cereal.
Neocate Junior with Prebiotic Fiber: www.neocate.com
Neocate formula has been around for a long time. It is an amino acid based formula used for infants and children with food protein intolerance and related conditions. Neocate Junior is for children one year and older transitioning from infant formula. The newest product: Neocate Junior with Prebiotic Fiber gives doctors and parents another option when a special diet is needed.
Note: I have not personally used or tested these products. Further, The Reflux Mom does not endorse or advocate the use of a particular product or service nor have I received any compensation for writing about these products.
