I have a 2.5 yr old with special needs.  He has been on zantac, prilosec, prevacid and has had a Nissen Fundoplication at 9 months of age.  Before the fundoplication, he ate, he spoon fed and sucked a bottle, he just couldn't stop throwing up.  After the fundoplication, he really stopped eating. I would be lucky if he would suck 3 oz of formula.  So at 14 mths, he received a g-tube.  And at that time, he TOTALLY stopped eating.  So here we are at 2.5 yrs of age, gagging and wretching, aspirating, and reacurrent pneumonia.  We've seen 3 different pediatric gastro doctors, all are on different pages.  We are seeing a new surgeon next week to talk about a redo fundoplication and a pyloroplasty surgery.  The scarry thing is, is if it will work and help with the gagging and wretching.  No one else talks about other things, such as botoxing the stomach muscles, or taking an antihistamine to dry up stomach acid.  I am so tired of having to beg for answers.  My son has quadraplegic cerebral palsy, is TOTALLY dependant on me, has epilepsy, cortical vision impairment (legally blind), periventricular leuka malaysia, and aside from having all of this, REFLUX is making his life miserable.  It is my #1 concern at this time.  I've seen when he's been able to be active, and I see it totally stop any progress he's made because of reflux.  I can't say that the medicine has helped him at all, he's on 30 mg of prevacid 2x a day and 2ml's of zantac....more than an adult should be on!
