A mother contacted me recently with a very worrisome message: her baby was refusing all feedings. She tried everything--bottle feeding, a spoon and a syringe--in a desperate attempt to get her baby to drink a few sips. When a reflux baby refuses to eat, it is often referred to as a “feeding strike....

I just wish our family GP could be this lady - 24 wks of reflux problems, they seem to sort for a week or so then she goes back to square one again - then it can take 3-4wks to get feeding going again but this time it's not resolving & babies milk intake now down to 15-20max oz per day from 35-40oz. Showing signs of dehydration - sunken eyes, reduced wet nappies, frontella is slightly depressed................. not that GP will take any notice. Feels like banging your banging your head against a brick wall at times getting UK GP's to listen
Hello,
I would be worried too. If you think your baby is dehydrated, it is best to seek emergency care. Is it possible to take her to the emergency department or an urgent care doctor?
An illness, a new tooth or other factor can affect feeding when a baby is already having feeding difficulties. While you see the ups and downs in intake, the doctor might be seeing a steady pattern of growth each visit. It is possible that you are working so hard that you are the "medicine" for your baby and the doctor is not seeing all of the work you are doing to keep the growth steady?

thankyou Jan for you reply. I think you are right I am her medicine ....I have spoken with the GP again today & he is adament she is not dehydrated, I maybe wrong but he gives off the impression that I am fussing over nothing. We have an apt to see a specialised pead gastro consultant at the end of the week so hoping he will have an answer, I have recorded her on one of her bad days me trying to get her to feed just to show him how hard it is for me to get her to take food & thus put weight on, if I didn't push her she would take nothing at all - she previously went 15hrs without feed as I was told to only demand feed her - I gave up at 15hrs as couldn't wait any longer for her to cry for food so fed her but she only took 4oz & again it was a mouthfull at a time . I think sometimes I ought to just stop trying & then maybe they will listen but why should I have to do that!? it makes me so annoyed at times
