The ComfyLiftBed is an innovative sleep solution for tired children and worn out parents. I met with Horacio Rubio, the owner of the Positional Therapy Pillow Company to learn more about his products. Rubio knows a great deal about acid reflux from his own personal experience with acid reflux and from creating products for infants to adults with reflux and respiratory symptoms.

What is the ComfyLiftBed?

The ComfyLiftBedTM is a patented and uniquely designed bed to help a child suffering with nighttime sleep breathing disorders such as: gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastroesophageal reflux (GER), obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and lung disease. The bed/mattress elevates the child at night to help keep stomach acid/food particles from aspirating into the lungs and burning the throat/esophagus by the use of the "natural law of gravity". It also has help with sinusitis and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) issues.

Who should use it?

The original ComfyLiftBed was designed for use by children of all ages. It became apparent early on that the pediatricians needed beds for infants/newborns with reflux. We went to the "think tank" and decided a smaller verse of the original ComfyLiftBedTM mattress was needed. The special needs mattress now is available with the NewBorn addition for infants, followed by the larger adolescent size for older children.

How did you develop the ComfyLiftBed?

Inspiration to design the special needs bed/mattress came when a loving mommy called and implored me to help her sickly child. The child's name was Julia. This three ½ year-old suffered from a rare lung disease, acid reflux and other health issues; causing her to be diagnosed with "failure to thrive." Up to this point, I had only designed adult pillows for reflux and had no idea that I would attempt to develop children's pillows or mattress for similar health issues. I tried to tell Julia's mommy that all I could send her was a plain wedge, which probably would not help, because Julia would most likely slide down. Julia's mother persisted, and expressed her deep love for her wonderful daughter; and that got to me. Her mother's adoring love, deeply moved me to help. I hung-up the phone that very moment and prayed to Almighty God to help me to help Julia. I stopped everything that I was doing, and within an hour, I had the basic design for the ComfyLiftBedTM!

How does it work?

The ComfyLiftBedTM/mattress is normally placed in a standard size crib or toddler frame without the existing mattress. It has removable adjusting Head & Foot wedges underneath the body of the mattress that allows the child to grow and still be elevated. The adolescent size mattress can be placed on top of a twin bed or on the floor in a freestanding unit. Simply said the special mattress is designed to keep children elevated on their back or side at all times to help their digestion and breathing at nighttime.
