For past year I have been living with acid reflux. It seems that I get it if I take anything for pain. Any of these drugs for heartburn, giving me headache, so I keep taking Motrin, and my symptoms get worse.
I'm going crazy, and heartburn is the worse thing anyone can have.

Friday, January 11, 2008 at 01:04 PMHello,
Sometimes we have to look at what we are eating also that may irritate acid reflux.
Such things as caffeine and alcohol (they call these trigger foods). Consuming these on a long term basis only aggravates the stomach and the feeling of "being sick all the time."
Changes in your food can help reduce the acid in your stomach. Less acidic food in what you eat. Sort of like making a list of foods that are acidic and go toward the ones that are alkaline based.
The medication helps with the acid, but it also helpful to reduce the consumption of acid by being aware of which products flare up the symptoms.
I don't know about motrin, or aspirin having an affect on acid reflux, but it would seem that it may be that your stomach is too sensitive to these products.
Maybe ask your doctor what you can take that would not aggravate your acid reflux.
I did find an article from "Intelheath that might fit your theory. This is what it said:
Medications Some common medications also can cause a chemical burn in the esophagus. Pills that are most likely to cause esophagitis include potassium, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or aspirin, osteoporosis medications such as alendronate (Fosamax) or risedronate (Actonel), iron supplements and quinidine (sold under several brand names).
You can read the whole article here:

Hope this helps.

Hello ljub123,
Welcome to our community and thank you for the SharePost!
Dr. Todd Eisner has a new post that answers your question. Read it below:
Can my medications be making my acid reflux symptoms worse?
To your specific comment about Motrin and similar drugs (known as NSAIDs), they have been known to cause esophagitis, an inflammation of the esophagus.
Read Dr. Eisner's post and be sure to talk to your doctor about your specific condition to help you find the best treatment for your acid reflux and anything else that needs relief.
Let us know what you find out!
