My 9 yr old son is suffering from complaints of trouble swallowing/breathing for about 1 1/2 yrs now. As a result of these constant complaints...my son no longer will eat solid foods. When the complaints first began we sought help from a GI specialist and found that he had moderate inflammation in his esophagus and 5 small ulcers in his stomach. He was given prevacid which seemed to help somewhat. His eating was still severely limited but slowly he was trying new foods. He had an intense fear that eating would bring about the symptoms from before and he feared possibly choking. He continually said that at times his food would become 'stuck'. I've never known him to actually have a choking episode though. His anxiety with eating became so bad that he started having panic attacks at school during his lunch period. Due to the anxiety he was put on Zoloft...which helped somewhat as well. He currently has been given a clean bill of health from his GI doctor. The ulcers are healed and the inflammation is now gone. She took him off the prevacid and his symptoms have spirialed out of control. He refuses to eat anything but liquids. He's very anxious during meal times and takes forever to get just a few spoonfuls of soup broth down. We are currently seeing a Psychologist for anxiety related eating disorder but in the back of my head I can't help but wonder if there is something we missed. Could there be something else medically wrong, causing his trouble with swallowing or should I assume that this is purely psychological? He cries often saying that nobody believes him and that doctors won't help him. It breaks my heart and I'm unsure of where to turn from here. If there is anyone out there that might have some words of advise...please, please write to me. Is there anyone that has a child experiencing these kinds of symptoms? Any information would be great. Thanks, Carrie
