Barium Swallow Radiograph
A barium swallow radiograph is a diagnostic tool used to diagnose GERD. The test identifies structural damage to the esophagus including stricture, active ulcer craters, hiatal hernia, erosion, or other abnormalities that may indicate acid reflux disease. The patient swallows a solution that contains barium then x-rays are taken of the esophagus.
