Q: I had an allergic reaction at the dentist. He prescribed a topical steroid, but the issue kept returning. Then was prescribed a tappering steroid pill. . .which caused acid reflux. . .still have bot

h. . .my mouth is messed up and even after the barrium test, they can't seem to figure out why feeling of a lump in my throat 24/7. Help. This is about as miserable as I can handle.

Have you seen a primary care doc in addition to the dentist? You need someone to look at the whole picture. Are you still taking the prescribed steroid? It may be that if so the reflux isn't going to improve until the irritant is stopped. You don't want to suddenly stop the steroid though - that can totally throw off your system. Your doctor may also want to consider a different proton pump inhibitor or a different dosing schedule.

 

In the mean time you may want to consider trying some of the preventive solutions. You may also want to consider your diet for the time being to see if anything you are eating is also aggravating the situation.
