Thanks for the question. While GERD is not known to cause weight gain, it's symptoms can increase due to weight gain, according to this article in the New England Journal of Medicine. The study, done among women, showed that even "moderate" increases in weight can cause or worsen acid reflux symptoms. So the acid reflux may not be causing the weight gain in you, but the weight gain ma be causing the symptoms.
However, you should talk with your doctor about these symptoms. Only he or she can make sure that you are experiencing acid reflux and not something else.
Hi. I completely agree with what John said. I've had reflux for over 10 years and I've always stayed at roughly the same weight and size. If anything I would have thought that acid reflux would make you lose weight. Personally I found that when I bring up food I often spit it out instead of re-swallowing it. And when my reflux gets really bad it puts me off eating certain foods, and sometimes I can't be bothered eating at all because I don't want to put up with the reflux that I get afterwards. I also have a friend that sometimes gets reflux. She said that when she lost weight she didn't have any symptoms, but as soon as she gained weight again all her symptoms came back. She thinks that the bigger she is the worse her reflux gets.
Did you know that you also get worse reflux from eating too much in one sitting. You're better off to eat little and often.

Hi I have noticed with myself that eating too much of course isn't good but at one time is trouble for when I go to bed. Then I have acid coming up and throw ups sometimes and can hardly breathe from too much liquid in my throat and can't clear my throat. I tell ya I pray even more when that happens to me cause it is scarey. I've decided last night that the one reason I eat a lot cause I can't feel my stomach. What I mean by that is I can't feel when I am full. So I am trying just smaller portions and drinking water instead of soda so I won't be constipated cause that's true that can cause the acid reflux. I've noticed one trigger food that causes is ice-cream. Tonight I have chocolate and that was bad. But really I am thinking it's wrong to eat it at all for me. One scoop is difficult for me to manage to stay with so I just won't have it. I had chicken with no skin tonight, my first time. I'm afraid to go to sleep fearing that it will come up tonight cause I feel that lump in my throat. I am going to start even doing better tomorrow and eat small and no ice-cream for me. Just hot tea for me.
