Q: After having the Nissen Fundoplication surgery is it possible to drink alcohol like regular people?

I've just been diagnosed with GERD and I was very disappointed to be told that I wouldn't be able to eat certain foods or drink alcohol if I want to feel better. I don't drink too excessively but I'm 20 and the idea of not being able to have a few drinks at the weekend makes me miserable. Having GERD means I feel sick really easily after having just one or two drinks. I also love eating certain foods that I've been told not to.

Does the Nissen Fundoplication surgery mean I can eat and drink like a regular person and not have any problems?

Also, the doctor wants me to try a PPI for a month for now but I doubt that will work anyway, while I take this medicine will I still feel sick after drinking alcohol?

As long as the surgery is successful, you should start to be able to eat all foods within a month or so after surgery.
