Q: what does it mean when you cannot burp or pass gas though you feel like you need to?

ate some bad food 6 days ago and since then have felt unwell. i cannot burp or pass gas although at times i feel gassy. what does this mean and how can i improve the situation? I have been previously diagnosed with a hiatal hernia but i do not experience any reflux from it. I was taking nexium but have stopped over two years ago with no adverse effect.

I have suffered with acid reflux for years. I took Nexium for many years an then stopped.  I have on occasion had severe chest pain which has brought me to the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack.  Each time they would say it was Esophagial spasms. I have noticed that I cannot burp the way I use to and that if I do it is deep down in my throat.  Can you tell me if this is something I should worry about?  I am back on the Nexium now. Thanks
