I do agree with the other poster that it's important to get other possible issues ruled out and not treat. It's always better safe than sorry!
His symptoms are similar to those in people with reflux. My daughter had reflux as a baby and was treated until she was 3.5. At 9, she got a chronic cough that we could only get rid of with reflux meds. She's now 12 and has been on meds since then.
I think many of us think of reflux as being a problem only adults have but realistically there are many children who also suffer with it.
You may want to consider a food log or some of the preventive options. If any of this works it would be helpful to then show to his pediatrician.
