Thanks for your question. Although mint is both associated with acid reflux symptoms and a popular flavor for toothpaste, that should not matter since you are not swallowing toothpaste. Because GERD can sometimes eat away at tooth enamel, you may want to try and find a toothpaste that helps strengthen tooth enamel. There are plenty of brands who market products like this, so perhaps try to find the one that you like the best. I hope this helps.

I had recently started experiencing symptoms of gerd every night (all through the night) while sleeping, so I searched the Net for all the things I can do on my own to help. Everything has helped (smaller portions, chewing well, sleeping at a slant, drinking warm water when in pain, not drinking alcohol with meals, etc.), but the one thing that had an immediate negative affect on me was right after brushing my teeth for at least an hour after! Here it'd be only 10 am, I'm feeling great, and then after brushing I'd start making that gurgling sound and feeling a burning sensation in my chest. I decided it was the strongly-flavored commercial toothpaste I'd been using. Maybe it's cuz I'd swallow water afterward and my teeth had residue on them, but I also think it was just the mint scent wafting down my throat, cuz I'd get a bad feeling at mid-brushing even. So two days ago I switched to a health-food-store fennel flavored toothpaste, and walla! No more acid reflux feeling during or after brushing. Just wanted to share this, because while it seems silly that it could matter, it sure did for me!

Thank you, Marie. Going to try this asap! Every night I go thru the coughing and heartburn right after brushing. Always used pepsodent because of the taste and a whitetener a couple of times a week. Use biotene rinse to stop dry mouth which works for that but also feel it aggravaates burning. Going to health-food-store pronto.   paula
