Q: Abdominal Pain..3-4 times a month

I am 30 years old, I have frequently occurring chest pain that radiates up into my jaw and throat. The only way to relieve it is to lay on my stomach.  It usually happens after I drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes.  It has been happening for about 12 years.  This week it was really bad.  I was really stressed out and almost went to the hospital because of it.  No one has been able to tell me what it is.  It feels like stabbing or shooting pain that radiates throughout my upper abdomen...

I have had similar issues due to GERD.  Alcohol and cigarettes can be GERD triggers so it is always possible that could be your problem as well. That having been said I would think it would be wise to rule out other causes for chest pain, especially with your history of smoking.  For some, especially women, heart problems can also present with GI symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.  Chest pain should never be taken lightly so it may be time to make another appointment with your doctor!
