Is it possible that GERD causes unstable pulse, I am 30 years smoker and alchoholic?

I discovered that I have GERD 3 years ago (maybe too late) and I started using medication (Mepral 20) one tablet per day, I had GERD symptoms long time ago but I never heard of it, now my doctor advised that I can take a single tablet every day for ever, does that affect the liver or anything?

My doctor says that GERD may cause pulse instability, but I consulted a cardiac doctor and he stated that it doesn't, please I need an answer?

Hi Samer Jaber,

The best thing you can do for your health is to quit smoking. Not only can smoking make acid reflux symptoms worse, it can actually cause the reflux among other more serious conditions. You can read what Dr Eisner has to say about it in this question and answer column. Because the smoking has such a detrimental affect on the body, it is possible that is the reason for your unstable pulse as well. There is a site on HealthCentral dedicated just to people who want and need to quit smoking. You can access that site here at www.stopsmokingconnection.com.

Good luck Samer and stay in touch. Let us know how you are doing!
