Q: Is it possible for a person to throw up constantly and eat large amounts of food who has acid reflux

This person has said that they have had acid reflux when they were younger. I have seen the throw up in the toilet and smelled stomach acid. Then I heard him throw up three times in the next hour and half, each time he ate a large quantity of food. I have talked to him and he said that it was because of his acid reflux that he was throwing up. He was supposed to have medicine for it but the actions have not changed. When I heard him throw up it was about thirty minutes after he had eaten. Is this typical of any patients that have had acid reflux?

Thanks for your question. Nausea after eating can be a common symptom of GERD. Your friend should be sure to check with his or her doctor to make sure that is actually what is causing the vomitting.
